FREDDIELouise Bicker MBACP
BSc (Hons) humanistic counselling Dioloma in attachment based psychotherapy
Counsellor / therapist specialising in addiction, trauma, attachment and adoption
I am a qualified humanistic counsellor working with adults experiencing addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties and significant life transitions. I have a particular interest in the impact of early relationships, attachment disruption, childhood adversity, loss and experiences that may have occurred before a person had the language to describe them.
A significant part of my work is with people affected by alcohol, drugs and other forms of dependence or compulsive behaviour. I also support partners and family members who are living with the emotional consequences of someone else’s addiction.
Before establishing my private practice, I worked extensively within drug and alcohol services as a counsellor, keyworker and group facilitator. I supported people with complex and overlapping needs, including trauma, shame, poor mental health, homelessness and involvement with the criminal justice system. I have experience of abstinence-based recovery and harm-reduction approaches and understand that meaningful change rarely follows a simple or predictable path.
Alongside addiction and recovery, I work with:
-
Childhood trauma and emotional neglect
-
Attachment and relationship difficulties
-
Adoption, separation and ambiguous loss
-
Anxiety, depression and low self-worth
-
ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence
-
Rejection sensitivity and emotional dysregulation
-
Shame, people-pleasing and perfectionism
-
Bereavement, loss and major life transitions
-
The effects of abuse, coercion or difficult relationships
-
Family members and partners affected by addiction
My approach is warm, relational and non-judgemental. I am interested not only in what is happening in your life now, but in what you have lived through and how you learned to survive it. Rather than asking, “What is wrong with you?”, we can begin to explore what happened to you, how you adapted, and what you may need now.
Alongside my BSc (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling, I hold advanced training in attachment-based psychotherapeutic counselling. This allows me to work at greater depth with early experiences, relational patterns and unresolved losses that may continue to shape how a person feels about themselves and relates to others.
I bring substantial professional experience together with warmth, honesty and genuine humanity. You will not be judged, shamed or expected to arrive with everything worked out. I offer a confidential space where you can speak openly, understand yourself more fully and begin creating lasting change.
I work online with clients in the UK and internationally.
